Any suggestions on improving my tactics?

I started playing chess just under two months ago, and I figured a good way to get started would be to do puzzles to improve my pattern recognition.

That worked well enough at first, but my improvement has since stagnated, with my puzzle rating currently hovering around 2,300.

Since grinding out more puzzles seems to have little effect, is there anything else I could be doing for better skill progress?

For context: my goal is to reach 800 rapid rating by the end of the year, which I feel should be doable.

Sounds like you're on the right track with puzzles for pattern recognition, to continue progression try to broaden your practice routine.

Try playing more games, analyzing your own games and analyzing classic games and focusing on specific aspects of chess at a time such as openings, middle game tactics and endgames.

Consider also reading some books on improvement or guidance from a coach or joining a chess club to discuss strategies and learn from others.

Hey! If you're looking to break through that plateau, I'd recommend trying out ChessMood. Their structured approach really helped me improve. They have video lessons and a supportive community that can offer tailored advice. Plus, it's a nice change of pace from just doing puzzles. Good luck reaching your rating goal!

Fun fact: the guy doesn't have any lost games. 6 games in rapid, all wins.

Instead of jumping straight to high-rated puzzles, mix in lower-rated ones to reinforce basic patterns. This helps in solidifying fundamental tactics and building confidence.
