I'm impressed on how much effort/time you devote to openings!  That's impressive.  I just don't have that much time in one sitting . . . . I have time in various time slots.  (Sort of like the short-attention-span generation, even though I'm a baby boomer!)

I think it also matters how complicated the openings you play are. I like complicated openings but its hard to keep on top of things if every opening you play is a super complicated one. One adjustment I have made to my game is to add some simpler openings to my arsenal. The one that has improved my results the most is dropping the ruy lopez as white and playing either the Italian or four knights instead. I still play some complicated openings but not as many as I used to. If all I played were complicated openings I dont think I would have enough time to study them all very deeply or at least I doubt I could do a very good job of it.

Interesting approach.  Yes, R-L is way complicated.  I'm a 1d4 player and KID (from either side of the board) is way complicated.

An easy simplification for me: I started learning the French (I've been told that every improving player should play it for 6 months, even if they will drop it, because the pawn structures are similar to many other openings).  I play Rubinstein because one can play it, and get the same position, after 3 Nc3 or 3 Nd2 -- i.e., simplify what I have to know.
