Anyone here an adult improver?

Hey gang.  So I'm in my 40s and just recently got more serious about my chess, even though I've been playing since I was a kid.

If anyone is an adult working on improving their game (what the chess world calls "adult improvers"), send me a friend request.  I also started a Chess.com club, which is pretty new and not very active.  The Vintage Patzers

I hope to hear from you!

Cheers,

Bonez.

Hi I just joined your club -- thanks for organizing this. I'm 61... played a little when I was 13-14 then nothing until last year.

If you're an adult improver, it's important to listen to adult music while playing your... adult games.

In Brasil, as many other countries, a person ins considered adult if he/she is 18+

Dear Sawbonez,

I have more than 15 adult students, so I think I could help you with improving all your skills (openings, strategies, tactics and endgame) at chess. You can see a lot of feedbacks from my coaching services here: https://www.chess.com/forum/view/chess-lessons/feedbacks-from-my-services I am an official, full-time chess coach. Let me introduce myself. happy.png

My name is Gabor Balazs. I am a Hungarian FM, fighting for the IM title. My top ELO is 2435. I have been playing chess for 21 years. I won the Hungarian Rapid Championship twice (U16 and U18).

I love teaching chess and it is very important for me that both of us enjoy the lessons beside the hard work. I have pupils almost all the levels from beginners to advanced players (1100-2200 ELO).

Why should you choose me?

- I have a widespread opening repertoire (a lot of openings are analysed by strong Grand Masters).

- I have a lot of chess books in PDF and Chessbase format, so I can teach you the main middlegame plans, the art of calculations, famous chess games and the endgame theory.

- I have elaborated, personalized training plans, which help you to improve your skills effectively.

- I help you analyse your games deeply, so you can realise your mistakes and learn from them.

- I am really flexible and hard-working person, the quality of my work is really important for me.

- My lessons are on Skype or Zoom with webcam and screensharing. (Skype ID: balazs.gabor91 ; Zoom ID: balazsgabor1991@gmail.com)

- I give homeworks, so you can also practice alone and I check your solutions in my free time.

- I answer your messages within 1 day, I am not the type of coach who disappears for a week after the lesson.

My hourly rate is 50 USD/hour.

Please, contact me (balazsgabor1991@gmail.com), if you are interested in working with me, I am looking forward to your message. happy.png

I didn't play much and didn't improve at all between high school and the age of 35, but I've made big strides since then.  The difference between the young me and the player I am now is study - I read chess books and analyze games & positions.

The key was to shake off the notion that I had already learned all I could.  You can always sharpen the skills you have.  I spent about a year struggling against an Expert in my local club before I decided to attack faster.  I was always best as an aggressive player, but fear of looking foolish was preventing me from trying sacrifice lines which looked promising, and as a result I was consistently getting picked apart by a superior tactician.

The key for me was to stop worrying so much about what he was going to do to my position, and to start looking for ways to blow apart his position.  You can't improve if you're not determined to fight for every game, and you can't improve unless you're determined to make your opponents, at whatever strength, fight for it, too.

I'm 52 and started playing chess 2 years ago, I had played as a teenager just for fun on occasions with friends but never knew an opening or really much more then how the pieces moved, slowly but surely I have been improving but it takes time, and as an older adult I'm guessing my learning curve is a lot longer than some of these younger players, if you ever want to play a game, friend me.

It's looking like I'm the Old Man of this group.  Mid-60s, and I just started this crazy game ... seven weeks ago, today(!).

You 1000+ rated folks who keep calling yourselves "beginners" ... I wonder what that makes me (a lowly mid-500)???
