Not a beginner, but I didn't pass 2000 rating until my early 60s.
Are there other old beginners here?
I'm 58, I also play since I was a boy, but I never studie chess. I'm also terrible and studying as much as I can.

65 this year and decided to get better at it and joined chess.com some 18 months ago, played very occasional social before then. Clawed my way to 1700 and plateaued...so got a tutor 2 weeks ago. Learning heaps and hopeful of getting back to 1700+. Tutor reckons anyone can get to 2100 with application.

I'm 39, which I thought was old lol . My brother taught me the basics when I was a kid and I have started relearning last week. I am terrible!!!

Hi all. I am 66 years old, I thought I knew how to play chess until a couple of months ago! LOL I wish I had known more than how the pieces move when I was younger. I am also terrible! Memorizing openings isn't too hard for me, but middle game strategy.......Really bad!

49, learned the game as a kid, never played after, started on chess.com again last February. Sticking to Daily (correspondence) games so I have enough time to consider my moves. I am learning a lot from each game!
49. I did get quite into chess (for a year or so) about 20 years ago, but the Queen's Gambit series re-awakened my interest in chess about a month ago. I'm really really good at blunders

Welcome to the world of chess.
Similar story to Workerdroid, I'm back after 20 years of inactivity, also inspired by the Queen's Gambit (and then lured in by the YouTube algorithm). Low 40s here.
Just wanted to say, you are not terrible. The first couple of games, before your actual rating is determined, can be difficult. From what I can see, you're doing great.
I'm in my low 50s, have known *how* to play since I was a boy, but have only recently picked the game up. I'm TERRIBLE. But I can still have fun. Are there other older beginners around?
