48, and just join Chess.com a week a go. 😁👍
Are there other old beginners here?
52 and joined a week ago. Learnt as a kid but never played much. Loving it now and enjoying learning - but am really rubbish!

Please forgive the prose, but I tried to post yesterday and they said it was spam and I was given a day's ban. I'm 71 and really haven't played seriously in 50+ years. During high school, I was into postal chess, but never into tournament chess. I remember going into Chicago to play in a Chess Club on Wabash Ave. Now, I'm here to exercise the gray matter, but still haven't played a non-computer opponent yet. I really only remember the Ruy Lopez and now having the Sicilian thrown back at me. As Joe told Pip, "What larks!"

welcome oldies but goodies
This thread is for oldies but baddies.
ur 2300 I wanna be that bad

I, for one, love hearing these origin stories of us oldsters! I became interested in the game again as a spectator during the Deep Blue matches. We live in a golden age for chess fandom, regardless of our level of play!

its a shame that Robert James Fischer is not alive, could you imagine him in a stream.
My guess is though that before we had the benefit of any insights he would have been blocked and had posting rights removed.
That having been said...I'm stupid enough and content to be baffled by CHESS , never mind Fischer variants and 960.

He would be using it for anti-semitic rants. Check out his 2001 radio interview with Radio Baguio.

Yeah his stream would be taken down in a few hours, and then he'd post a youtube video on how twitch is run by oppressive, money-grabbing Jews.

woT larX! play a people here more fun. so to speak.

14 years old (not too old, lol) learned the game when I was a little girl, about 3 years old. I stopped playing then learned again at 12. I'm not a beginner, more of an intermediate player. It's never too late!

senpai you are a noob, uwuwuwuwuw *blushes*

I'm 37 just learned the basics of chess a couple of months ago! I l wanted to learn and beat my husband lol I am addicted now😅

65, and thanks to chess, I found out I've been ADHD my whole life. Who knew? Certainly not anybody back when my father taught me to play chess in 1963. I'm never going to be very good, but I enjoy bashing against the brick wall. Salute to all you old guys, and trust me, 17-50 is NOT old.

Hi all. Seen some others in their 70s so dont feel so bad. I only ever played in high school and only for about a year. Still know how to move the pieces so decided a couple of months ago to take this up as a hobby. To exercise the grey matter because the body is a lost cause. Really embarrassingly bad but just looking to enjoy it
well then yes, 17 is considered old
