I'm 60 (61 in two weeks) & got into chess with the Spassky-Fischer battle in'72.  Fischer brought chess where people could make a living from it; well before cricket & the varied codes of footy here!

For decades, it never occurred to me to check libraries for basic info about chess: i.e. openings, strategy, tactics, endgames & other basics.  I bought Nunn's Openings, intro books by Burgess & Schiller, etc.  I quickly realised that publishers' are the winners in  published literature.

I live on a pension - mainly psychosocial - & I find it hard to play live chess.  I'm trying to find the confidence to play live chess (e.g. 15/10 minimum), although I want to.  (Ultra-bullet, bullet & blitz hurt my brain just watching!)  Hope I haven't over-shared!  Cheers from the chilly realms of Oz..

I'm 53 ,i learned the moves in 1976 (my best friend taught me and beat me in every single game,he was playing in a club).

After that  i lost interest until the early 2000, and played a long time against engines .

But playing against programs is boring ,so i'm here since 2013, and i am  still not a good player.

But i have fun!

That's sad news about the Vintage Patzers ... it was mention of them at the end of a podcast that brought me here!

"I have absolutely no aptitude for the game but tragically I can’t stop playing it" -- that's me too!

Well I am 70 and was once (in my 20s!) an oK club player - now returning to play I struggle to get a win against a 1400 player - need to brush up on opening and ending theory but the brain isn’t as retentive as it was!

I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And yet I can't play chess LOL! wink.pnghappy.png

vinyl gets you in, 8-track puts you on the steering committee.  Working 8-track installed in Chevy Nova, chair.

I once owned a '68 Chevy Nova. Does that count? Cost me the princely sum of $600! 😳

And listening to ZZ Top Tres Hombres on that 8-track makes you Grand Poobah. Or Mel Torme, just saying…

RobertJames_Fisher
