Are there other old beginners here?

I'm 53 ,i learned the moves in 1976 (my best friend taught me and beat me in every single game,he was playing in a club).
After that i lost interest until the early 2000, and played a long time against engines .
But playing against programs is boring ,so i'm here since 2013, and i am still not a good player.
But i have fun!

That's sad news about the Vintage Patzers ... it was mention of them at the end of a podcast that brought me here!
"I have absolutely no aptitude for the game but tragically I can’t stop playing it" -- that's me too!

I am Connor MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod. I was born in 1518 in the village of Glenfinnan on the shores of Loch Shiel. And yet I can't play chess LOL!

My brother that is 68 had college buddies who could play blindfold chess in the back of the car on the way back from college that amazes me

if you still have vinyl records or 8 track tapes you are IN
vinyl gets you in, 8-track puts you on the steering committee. Working 8-track installed in Chevy Nova, chair.

I once owned a '68 Chevy Nova. Does that count? Cost me the princely sum of $600! 😳

And listening to ZZ Top Tres Hombres on that 8-track makes you Grand Poobah. Or Mel Torme, just saying…

haha loved when a song on an 8 track crossed over the tracks and you heard the click of the tracks changing

Bachman Turner Overdrive for the honorable mention. And Doobies were in the air. The band I mean.
I'm 60 (61 in two weeks) & got into chess with the Spassky-Fischer battle in'72. Fischer brought chess where people could make a living from it; well before cricket & the varied codes of footy here!
For decades, it never occurred to me to check libraries for basic info about chess: i.e. openings, strategy, tactics, endgames & other basics. I bought Nunn's Openings, intro books by Burgess & Schiller, etc. I quickly realised that publishers' are the winners in published literature.
I live on a pension - mainly psychosocial - & I find it hard to play live chess. I'm trying to find the confidence to play live chess (e.g. 15/10 minimum), although I want to. (Ultra-bullet, bullet & blitz hurt my brain just watching!) Hope I haven't over-shared! Cheers from the chilly realms of Oz..
