Are there other old beginners here?

All you old guys 50+ years old why don't you join a club I belong to . . .
The Geezers group . . .

I think you'll like it . . .

Alright. Same as me except I decided to study the game *this* August
Same here! What is it about fifty year olds and August? Though I have messed around online with chess on and off over the years I haven't actually put serious effort into getting better. I do hope it's not too late!

Hello, everyone! I'm turning 26 and I am a beginner. I mean, I know I'm only mid-20's but I'm still new to playing lol. My brother always offered to teach me but I never took it, I recently started dating someone and they started teaching me since it's their favorite hobby.

Come on now... if a 65-year-old can break 2350, then you young sprouts should be able to break 2000.
I am 55 so I have 10 years to get there haha

My grandmother taught me the game when I was 8. The problem was, she taught moves and not strategy. I hit junior high and an 8th grade teacher beat me with "Fool's Mate." 4 or 5 moves and I was done. This was in 1967. I didn't pick it back up till 2 months ago.
There is a moral there when mentoring younger players. I leave it you to apply it.

I am 47. I played a bit in my teens then didnt play for 27 years. So I am pretty much a beginner. I now try to play every single day. Keeps my mind sharp. I love chess more now than I did in my teens. So glad I started again
I'm 56 and rated about 900. My goal is 1200 before I die.
You can do it! (And probably long before you die.)
I'm not really a beginner. I've been playing since I was 8, but I hadn't played seriously in over 25 years when I joined this site in November (because of the Queens Gambit series). I'm 67 now, rated around 1300-1400. I feel I'm steadily improving, but it's SO discouraging when I realize that none of my games are won or lost because of either player's sight or vision, but on who sees the last mistake. Because of that I most of my playing against bots, where a loss doesn't hurt as much. I would note, however, that lower rated players seem much more knowledgeable about openings, up to a point, than they were when I was an active tournament player.

54 and have had a stroke and play like it! Lol. Seriously it keeps my brain churning away. I hover around a 900. The more I know the more I realize I have to learn!

I turned 65 this year and took up the game after not playing for decades. Was never much good as a kid so dropped it. Now I'm back at it and would like to improve. So far I've played a bunch of 5 minute blitz games to get some idea about how to play an opening and a bit about tactics. But I don't think I'm really improving much because I just can't think fast enough for blitz. So am now looking at longer duration games. Would be really interested in playing anyone in my age range.
