Beginner question about ranking

Hello! I know when beginning ranking isn't important and I'm just trying to understand more about the whole system. I just started chess about a month ago and I'm playing around 700 for 10 min games and about 1000 if I take my time (30 min) in person and with the bots. Is this normal? which rating should I go by? Would It be an average? Thank you for the help!

If you wish to improve, longer games are better. If you only want to have fun, play the time control you prefer the most.

If there are large groups of players who only play 10 minute and then a separate group who only plays 30 minute, then yeah, it could be true that you tend towards one rating for 10 minute games and a different rating for 30 minute games.

Which one should you go by? I guess which ever one is higher because why sell yourself short?  But more seriously, that's a good question, and there really isn't an answer. I'd say your rapid rating is whatever your profile says it is.

I have heard some people say they think the bots are easier than humans of the same rating, but I haven't tried myself so I don't know... and some of them sort of cheat the system because apparently the faster you play the more mistakes the bot will make... or so I've heard.

Thank you for that! I love long games, I actually prefer them, but in person, you know? Online I like the rapid because they're quick and easy to analyze! But I prefer usually 30 min games. so thank you for clearing that up for me! Helps a lot! And yeah you can tell when the bots just start blundering on purpose and it's a lot different than in-person lol because I've been playing 1200 bots and I'm no genius so that doesn't feel right lol

As a beginner Blitz is really hard. So it is normal to be lower rated. Once your board vision improves and your pattern recognition sets in, Blitz makes more sense.

This is only an alt acc, but I rec 30 minutes as it can help you find flaws in your play! You can improve on weaknesses in real life situations and improve flexibility against middlegame positions and unorthodox openings such as the English or the Paris Gambit. Just try to analyze your games every so often to see where your thinking was flawed.
