Try not to focus on openings too much. If you do, you will go down the same path as me. If I would have focused on tactics more, I almost definitely would have hit 1000 by now.
Hi. I’m new to chess. Could anyone let me know the best way to learn and apply chess openings. Do I learn like 10 and then apply them as I go? Or should I master one and then go on to the second?
Also suggest me how to go around understanding and recognising patterns and chess tactics in middle game. Thanks.
Welcome! It is always nice to see new people take up chess.
For chess openings, it is mostly about using chess opening principles (fundamentals), rather than trying to memorize opening theory. While you just use opening principles for a while, your goal should be to experiment with openings and see what you feel comfortable with and then specialize a little more in the opening(s) you choose to play, since those are the ones you'll be getting most frequently in your games.
When starting out with chess, (as others have mentioned), openings aren't that important in comparison to tactics puzzles, knowing basic checkmates or basic theoretical endgames.
Although I have many videos on my channel, here are two videos I think will help you
You don't need to study openings in the beginning.
If you want to though, pick one move / opening and have an answer ready for every response For example, if your first move is 1.e4 and Black surprises you with 1... c6 you can look it up after the game...
And stay away from the London.
