Best Openings for Beginners

What are the best openings for aggressive players? I like the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) opening - not a meme, an actual thing - and the Haloween Gambit but would appreciate some thoughts from you guys.

Hello there! There is no ‘best opening’, what opening works for you depends on your playing style. The only way to find out if an opening works for you is to try it. If you learn the main responses and ideas I think you’ll be fine.

However, I think there are some openings that aren’t the best for beginners. Because they’re difficult and even intermediate players sometimes get befuddled. With this I mean openings with a lot of theory, positional play, or that go against the opening principles. At your level I should avoid: Grünfeld, Pirc, Benoni, Kings Indian, Scandinavian. (Yes, Scandinavian is known as a low elo opening but it goes against the principles and imo isn’t that good).

Maybe openings like the Ponziani, Scottish and Four knights game are worth looking into. Have fun!

There is no good or bad opening, It's better to understand opening fundamentals first and then apply them in your game. Also I find chesstrive .com to be a great tool to understand the ideas behind every move.

Hey, awesome topic! ICBM and Halloween Gambit are definitely some wild, aggressive choices for beginners. To really master those lines and understand their nuances, a solid Chess Analysis tool can be super helpful for spotting traps and optimizing your play. Keep exploring those fun openings!

Both the Halloween and the ICBM are bad choices, but at beginner level the opening plays almost no role at all.

This question is quite normal, but also really stupid at the same time. An opening is a question, with a number of sub-questions. 1. Who is playing the opening 2. Who is the opponent? 3. Is it Bullet or over the board 3 hours game - point being Magnus can pretty much win whit any opening and I can loose using pretty much any opeing... So is it really down to the opening, or maybe more the middle / endgame?

Aggressive? I think that fried liver could be a good choice for beginner players
