Best openings for beginners(Black)

I have showed you some openings for White, now it's time for the other side.

1. Englund Gambit

Also check out this video(it is not mine!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7r5mP6rw1w

This opening is a CA to 1. d4, but if you play this, you should be paying enough attention to the entire board. Some traps included in the video(author: GothamChess)

2. Four Knights Game

If you enjoy development games, you will probably like this one. If White plays 3. Nc3 after 2. ... Nf6 or 2. ... Nf3, maybe your response should be using your second knight. Now, the bishops can come in. You may involve the d pawn as well. Or, if you like traps, maybe try a crazy move? You decide!

3. Sicilian Defense

This line is a simple response to 1. e4. It is played by beginners, intermediate/advanced players, and even titled players! However, if you counter 1. e4 that way, be aware of all possible lines, like 2. d4(Smith-Morra Gambit) 2. Nc3(Closed Sicilian) etc. So, you better come prepared, players!

Shall I make a topic for intermediate players?

Englund gambit isn’t good. Semi-Slav defense is a good replacement. I also prefer c5 as black.

Depends how you play it. My ELO is 1,1K and I still win my games with it.

ChessSBM

Yeah sure there is traps for it, but if white played correctly, black would be in a disadvantage.

Is this topic some joke? I don't get the joke, but I just can't imagine the OP being serious. You recommend the Sicilian: 1. e4 c5 and then "be aware of all possible lines". Well, I guess I am beginning to see the joke.

It’s not a joke nor that the OP is serious. What he obviously meant by “be aware of all possible lines” is that you should learn how to encounter possible lines.

Recommending that to a beginner is either a bad joke or some serious trolling.

Out of players below 1K ELO, these traps are very rarely played, and even if they are, the attacker can quickly get lost in his own plan. Look: 1. e4 c5 2. d4 exd4... and what comes next? So, if you try a opening trap, you better memorize some powerful lines and all possible counterattacks. Deepopening theory is usually for players with 1,4K - 1,8K, so if your ELO is like that, you better come prepared. Well, I know it's intended to be for beginners, but they shouldn't pull a magic trick out of nowhere, unless they have it mastered.

All this is complete nonsense. Beginners should not memorize any opening lines.

Also, deep opening theory is for grandmasters.

The best opening for beginners to learn is the French Defence.. ( welcome to look at my blog series called 'Recommended Openings'

And if facing the Englund yourself as a beginner it is useful to play 2.e4 ✌️

Shall I make a topic for intermediate players?

I started with Englund Gambit and Sicilian at 800 to rise to 1400 fairly easily and had a lot of fun for the tactics and imbalance.

OTB, I am surprised how well prepared players in the 1600-1800 are. I think the pandemic has produced grossly underated players.

My points are equalize the opening and obtain a playable or enjoyable middle game. Have fun too because tactics, inaccuracies, mistakes and blunders happen on all levels.
