Black response to d4?

Can anyone recommend me an opening for black after white plays d4? I don’t have a specific position I try to achieve after d4 and it often leads to a bad position that ruins the rest of the game.

Any response is appreciated.

I’m oso very weak in response to d4

I usually just play d5 and keep the position solid

I like the Dutch defence and also have heard good things about the Slav defence, but I reckon the best way for you to figure out what to use is understand how you like to play (long drawn-out positional battles or sharp tactical positions or something else), find openings that allow these positions and try them to find which one you like. Hope this helps and good luck!

1...Nf6 is the best response to 1.d4

You could ply d5 to keep it solid

Nf6, d5, e6 and g6 are all very solid options. Some other options to consider are e5, c5, f5 and b6. I play Nf6 in serious games but all of the moves I listed above are decent.

Simplest and best is 1 d4 d5

Play the Grünfeld Slav. D5, c6, Nf6, g6. Solid with lots of potential.

The knight f6 lines look interesting, I have heard of something like that but I usually start with pawn moves because as a beginner I am told to put pawns in the center first and develop knights second. I will try some of the knight f6 lines suggested.

nf6 into instant c5 is very easy to play. heres how to thing about it. if they don't go e4, you can go nf6. this is why as white, nf3 first move is very easy to play. with nf3 first move preventing e5, if almost any responce, just go c4.

c6 isnt as effective against d4 as e4

Try Tarrasch defense. I use it against Queens's gambit, but idk if that good according to top players or not
