I just won a blitz tournament!! And I'm a bullet addict 😁 So there's hope for everyone! Even us low rated players. Just keep practicing. Doing a lot of puzzles helped me. That's the only department where I have a good 2500 elo.
You are probably right... it has been other things that have helped more with winning longer games. I have had the total frustration too of not having patience for blitz after playing too much bullet. Now I have finally gone trough some lessons. There's a lot of lessons & lesson challenges available here and on other platforms. I just wasn't interested enough before, but after winning legend league I stopped obsessing about winning the leagues (&playing bullet) & focusing on actually learning chess. And it has worked! Although I sucked at a 30sec hyper bullet tournament yesterday even though I used to be good at those. After slowing down a bit chess life is different. So it depends on what you put your energy in.
I do have a question: is chess supposed to be fun or not?? If yes then why not just play bullet if you want! If you want to do everything professionally and in the right way according to the pro players then save it for later when you know everything else. My point is if you can't have fun with chess you might loose interest in it. Sure do follow the rules if that is your thing, or have fun and do everything backwards if that makes you happy! I think it depends on the person what works. There will always be those who will ridicule you if you don't follow their 'official way', but who cares. Chess can also cause stress and anxiety if you take it too seriously. In the end you can sing "I did it my way" from the heart if your own way works.
