Last night I was playing a game with the computer. It was "friendly" game so I could ask for hints. The hint was to move a pawn from f6 to g7 and g7 was empty. That didn't make sense to me. I grabbed a screenshot but I don't see a way to paste it to this forum post.

After I sent the post I realized that I created the post (and played the game) on my ipad and that might be an issue. I'll log in on my Big Mac (pun intended) and give that a try. Thank you.
The hint probably told you to do this because of a special move called an en passant. You can google for more details but basically in a very specific situation you can capture an enemy pawn in a place that it isn’t. If the opponent pawn recently moved two squares and if your pawn was already there, you can capture his pawn as if his pawn had moved one square.
