Can someone give me feedback on my game?

Hi chess.com community!

I hope you're having a nice day happy.png

I'm a beginner in chess and want to improve (obviously)

I don't really know what is good and what is bad, and how I can improve from my games.

Do you mind giving me some feedback?

Also, is there a good resources to learn chess for newer - intermediate players?

In this game I was playing as white. (I analyzed my game and will put commentary soon)

On the whole it's a solid game.

19. Bd2 you leave a pawn hanging.

25. You take the rook but could have grabbed the queen.

What was the time control on this game? Are you giving yourself enough time to scan the whole board, consider candidate moves, and pick the one you think is best? If not, my advice is play longer controls.

KDchess

I did a 10 minute time control.

So are you confident that that time control allowed you enough time to make what is, in your view, among the best available moves each time??

KidOfScotch

It was kind of a copy game? i dont know?

KDchess

I think I made the best moves in my eye.

Of course there were better moves after analysis.

Maybe I'll play 15 minute time control.

If you want to improve, I'd recommend 15+10 at a minimum. The increment means you can't force a win by flagging your opponent, so games must be won or lost.

Ok, thanks

@KDchess, check out the video I just posted, I think it will really help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7QTzN515Eg

@benhunt72 I watched it thanks!

The move you want is 8.Bg5, threatening 9.Nxf6+ gxf6 10.Bh6 with attack. Black cannot play "copycat" forever - sooner or later there will be a move that cannot be copied. Of course Black should avoid this mess by playing ...h6 earlier.

Sneakiest_Of_Snakes

While others may be commenting some direct variations you missed (for example, the free queen on move 25), I want to ask you some more fundamental questions, to help you improve not just from this game but as a whole.

The most important question I have for you right now, is how do you come up with the moves you play in a game? For example, on move 16, how did you come up with the move Qc1.

KDchess

First, I look at what is undefended on the board. (at the moment I felt the rook was more important than the queen for some reason.)

I see if I can somehow defend them, then I look at my opponent's threats. (This game it was a hanging pawn we fought over.)

If I can prevent those threats, I do so.

Then, I see if I can make my own threats.

I usually look at the king or a pawn.

I played Qc1 because if I traded bishops immediately, the black queen could take my f4 pawn.

I don't know much about the middle game but I am slowly learning.

You need to play some more serious time controls if you want to improve.

25'+10" is a decent option- not too short, and not too long.

Since you castled so early, Black might have tried something like:

santiagomagno15

It was a decent game, the only blunder that I saw was when the black lose the bishop for free, but the development was good and it was a solid game for the white, if you want to learn from me just message me, I am giving a free chess lesson

A well played game! I'm not the best at chess, but I feel as if doubling your rooks in a file would have also been a useful play.

Post a loss, and do you own analysis.  Others need to know what your thought process is.

Yeah, posting a loss and adding a few notes to let us know what you're thinking helps people give you better feedback.

I guess I'll add some comments too.

Common sort of new player errors:

Eagerness to capture (moves 8 and 9)

Moving pawns instead of completing development (moves 11, 12, 14)

KDchess

@llama I'll remember that for next time.
