Hello. First a bit of backstory
Ever since I was a kid I wanted to play chess. My dad's friend ran a little chess club at school when I was a kid and I joined, at first it was fun but I ended being bullied out of the club so I forgot about chess.
A few weeks ago I began playing chess again out of boredom, and without folks telling me I suck and I should quit I kept on going.
Thing is, I kinda feel the kids back then had a point. Because I can't progress past 230. I try to read books and study how to play chess but I feel I'm too stupid to understand. I read about openings, etc but I dunno...I'm just feeling a bit discouraged, should I keep playing?
I'll play some unrated games with you if you want. for a little while anyway it's late here

"Because I can't progress past 230." ++ Do not worry about rating. Play and analyse your lost games. It is OK to lose games, as long as you learn something from these.
"I try to read books" ++ At 230 rating books do not help yet. Focus on blunder checking.
"I read about openings" ++ That is a waste of time and effort. Just develop pieces into play, control the center, castle O-O.
"should I keep playing?" ++ Chess is a game, it is meant to be fun. If it is fun to you, then keep playing. If it is no fun to you, then quit.

What you need is to get comfortable with how the pieces move. This will make you stop hanging pieces.
Next, do tactics puzzles. This will help you spot simple ways to gain material or checkmate your opponent.
You don't need to learn any specific opening, but do learn the opening principles:
- Control the center (e4,d4,e5,d5)
- Bring your pieces out towards the center
- Castle early
- Be very mindful of where you place your queen so she doesn't get chased around or trapped
- Rooks should stay on the 1st rank and be placed on open files
