chat during play- ever a good idea?

I usually ignore requests to chat.  A few I accepted told me to hurry up (which I ignored).

One was quasi-interesting - the player told me to resign (I was losing), and I told him he had insufficient material- so it was a chess-related debate; polite and not annoying.

Today I accepted a chat and the player mocked me and called me a noob (ironically, he started in Feb this year and is rated 500...)

So- what do you do?  accept? Accept from people you "know" on these boards?  always ignore? is it ever helpful or important?

thank you

Thank you

It’s never valuable or important. Always accept if you have a good sense of humor
