Check Mark and X icons in Puzzles

Can someone explain the check marks and Xs at the top of the board on the puzzles? I'm a complete newby to chess and this app and can't figure out what these represent. Thanks!
They represent the puzzles that you've already attempted during your current run and whether you've gotten each one correct (check mark) or incorrect (X).
I found this post but I'm still confused by it. The checkmarks and X's above the puzzles that are recommended to me after a game review never seem to change even when I get one correct or incorrect.
Has anyone else encountered this?
