Look for ways the king can move out of check, capture the attacking piece, or block the check
Wherever the king moves to my Queens have him?
Ah I’ve seen it now. It’s because his queen could block my E4 queen? He did actually do that, then I took his queen THEN it was checkmate
...Qd4. White will mate on next move.

Nice job figuring it out. I would recommend chess.com's checkmate puzzles. As a beginner, I get excited when I think I see checkmate and often forget about blockers. The puzzles helped with that.
