Computer Players vs Real Players

Why is it I can routinely beat various chess bots rated 1,000-1,300 but struggle to beat real players rated around 500?! Are the rankings they give bots that far off, or does my playing style just do better against “computer” moves?

The bot ratings, especially at the lower levels, are overrated compared to people at a similar rating. It's kind of hard to make an engine that's designed to find the best moves play weaker in a realistic way.

Search maya chess on google. It is a realistic engine.

Chess engines, even at lower levels, tend to follow certain patterns and make moves based on specific evaluation criteria. Once you understand the typical strategies and weaknesses of these bots, you can exploit them more easily.

I don't think I've played bots enough to understand their move strategies, but eh who knows. I think I ultimately need to just play more real players to learn and rely less on playing bots.
