For each of the openings discussed in the (3-part) video above be sure to pay attention to whether they are referring to White or Black’s perspective. Also, they frequently refer to some openings as "garbage" or "bad", etc., but these qualifiers are used in the context of how much so-called "theory" (i.e., documented variations) the opening encompasses and/or how much emphasis the opening places on positional versus tactical skills in order to play it well. For example, an opening they refer to as "garbage" (an unfortunate choice of terms) for a beginner may in fact be appropriate for higher rated players (Intermediates, titled players, etc.) who typically know more of the theory for the openings they play and have a more highly developed understanding of positional concepts (see the openings tier list for Intermediate players below).

just don't play the wayward queen attack. it can work at lower levels, but as you climb the rating ladder, avoid it like the plague. learn the London system, the King's Indian Attack, King's Indian Defense/Pirc Defense, and some e4 openings like the Italian (along with Fried Liver and Traxler Counterattack) and the Scotch. I highly recommend all of these, and these openings alone (mostly alone) have helped me get to where I am now. Which, granted, isn't that high, but should be soon. And by the way, watch Gothamchess videos to get you started too. He has pretty good basic openings videos.
