E4 opening tactics/strat resources- for beginners
you need to learn multiple defenses that black can play and what to do. The number of very different defenses and games that e4 leads to make its a more complex choice than d4. d4 openings, white controls what happens next to a higher degree: black has much fewer options. I prefer e4 because of the variety, honestly, but depending on just how much of a beginner you are it may be daunting.
If you pursue it, you should examine the first 5 or so moves of each of these.
Sicilian(4 or 5 variations), french, kings pawn(?) (e5, this is not awesome for black), Vienna, caro kahn, scandanavian (modern and classic both, classic is not popular at higher ratings) are all fairly popular responses and each one has its own ideas.
