I some-what know what the en passant is, but how/when can you do it? 

I've done it twice on a bot, is there a specific place the pawn needs to be?

When a pawn makes its first move 2 squares, and is next to an opposing pawn.  The opponent can capture on the next move only.

en passant happens when ur opponents pawn moves 2 sqares up and ur pawn is side by side with it. you can only do it for that move. eg if the opponnt move h4 and ur pawn is on g4, u can go gxh3 and u take it as if ur opponent moved h3
