The fastest checkmate is the Fool's mate which is just two moves. Following is an example of fool's mate: 1. f4 e5 2. g4 Qh4# Fool's mate can be done only by black. An equivalent version for white requires three moves. Second fastest is the Scholar's mate. It requires four moves. For white, it is as follows: 1. e4 e5 2. Bc4 Nc3 3. Qh5 d4 4. Qf7#
