you're probably full at this point but just in case, here goes. I was a decent player in elementary school. went to tournaments, my team made it to state championship. all that stuff. I then stopped playing for 4 years and now I have picked the game back up. my rating is 800-900 or something like that. I understand a lot of principles but need a lot of practice and some tips.

I also know notation btw. haha, that reminds me a of a funny story. I was at state qualifiers as a 4th/5th grader and it was like, the 7th round or something and this mom and her kid who I had played earlier in the 2nd round (all changes to official game outcomes are to be made within 2 rounds of the game) walked up to me and we're like "hey where u the kid who my son played earlier" and I said "yeah" and she was like "He won right?" and I was just wanting to go do something else, but also a little freaked out cus I didn't really talk to adults much and this was really outside of my comfort zone so I said "IDK I think so" apparently she took that as "yes" and got the tournament master to change the official recordings to say her son won. the only thing is, he didn't. my coach was super mad because that point could have been the difference between getting past qualifiers or not. in the end we argued with a few officials for a minute and then I realised I recorded the game (as I always do) and showed it to them. in the end they gave our team the point and the next week my coach told us we moved on by 1 point. lesson is, learn how to notate and ALWAYS record your games in anything that actually matters.
