Gameplay seems to be flatlining

I seem to have reached a point where my gameplay does not seem to be getting any better, has anyone else managed to successfully get out of a slump and start improving again?

I’m not a ‘complete beginner’ per se, I used to play chess a lot as a child, but then stopped playing aged 11 at secondary school because it ‘wasn’t cool’ (I’m sure fellow UK players can feel my pain, as chess isn’t as well respected as a sport here as it is in other countries 😉). I’ve been playing daily since October 2020, and for the most part, my score just will not creep above 700 and beyond, no matter how much I play 😔

Does anybody have any advice/tips/resources they could suggest to me, please? I would be ever so grateful 😊

It looks like you mainly play daily chess.

Looking at the Explorer for your games, I find this position:

I see you sacrificed your knight in this position multiple times and lost each time. 3 Bd3 doesn't make sense either.

If you look at the database of master games for the same position, you see hundreds of thousands of games.

Hundreds of thousands chose other moves like 3 Bb5 or 3 Bc4 or 3 d4. I do see there is one game where 3 Nxe5 was played and won. If you follow that link, you will see it was played for surprise value in a simul. http://tartajubow.blogspot.com/2020/01/pillsbury-razzle-dazzled.html

Did you know you are allowed to look at databases like this when you are playing daily chess?

I think you need to take some of the lessons available to you on how to open a chess game. I am not saying that you need to memorize anything but the general principles of taking space, developing pieces, getting castled will go a long way to unsticking your rating.

Solve plenty of tactics on the tactic trainer. Try to solve them fully in your head without moving the pieces this will train your calculation skills and help you notice basic tactical motifs in-game. Also focus on not hanging any material.
