There's a time limit for the first move and you can't use more than half the base time on moves 2 through 10

Use the website, I use only the website on my phone and something like this never happened to me.

You used 1:30 on your 9th move in a 3 2 game.

The rule is that if you use fully half of the base time for the time control on one single move, you are considered to have abandoned the game.

It's happened to me on the app - I saw a WhatsApp message and went to read it, came back a few seconds later to discover I had abandoned my game... Bit of a drag, as I was in a good position. On a computer it's OK, because you can keep tabs open and switch from one to another. But not on the app on a phone, so it seems

I'd recommend offering a draw in the game where you're interrupted. it's better than losing

For some reason when my opponents abandon the match they still have time on the countdown timer

that always happens I think

i get calls to. my phone during games and get disconnected for zero reasons as well, these are hackers with multiple fake friends on multiple boards with multiple different time clocks that associate with each game. Beware of game hackers across all platforms. they are not simply just looking to mess with you, they are after your accounts, your passwords, and payment methods. Be vigilant and report them to both chess. com and your lSP/Carrier. Chess should be hassle-free, not dangerous.

Yes, it’s true. My WiFi is slow for a second and then BAM

Your opponents can't impact your connection. The clients do not connect to each other so they can't get your connection details, even if they wanted to cause problems.

yea I just lost a game because I was thinking for too long with plenty of time on the clock. I just read if its move 10 or before, you only get 1 minute to think before auto abandon which seems wild. not like every single game is 10 book moves you have muscle memory for lol
