Know a little about what you're talking about before you publicly post something. For one Andrea Botez is already a woman FIDE master. Will she reach GM before me? Maybe but not likely simply because I'm a male. I'm not racist, prejudice or anything it's just simple stats.

On a positive note: Even if the GM plan doesn't work out, the path to becoming a standup comedian is wide open.

But yea, to be honest, if I was to start rising very quickly in the ranks "just saying" the sky is the limit simply because I'm a male. Chess skill has nothing to do with it, or else if it did there plainly would be more women in the top ranks than they are, so obviously there is some invisible barrier.

Hate to break it to you, but being old is far more detrimental to becoming GM than being male or female. Most GMs (including women) started playing chess when they were 3-4 years old while their brains were more malleable. If you think only 41 women GMs is low, try looking up the number of people that became GM after 60 (I would be surprised if you could find more than a handful of examples if any). The only example I could find was Larry Kaufman who became GM at 60 in 2008. However he became IM in 1980, so it took him 28 years to go from IM to GM. If all it took to be GM was memorization then way more people would be GM. It is a shame you don't play more games online, how do you expect to improve? I think if you had crossed over 1000 in 6 months most people here would have been impressed.

There is such a thing as the World Senior Championship, and the winner gets the GM title. That's the way Kaufman got it. It's more like a "honorary" GM title than a real one.

Of course, it's still impressive by an IM to win that event.

I mean I think it is a nice thing for FIDE to do regardless. Winning an entire tournament filled with GMs (albeit retired ones) is still plenty impressive. I think the worst part of chess is the mountain of crushed dreams. There are so many aspiring youngsters that throw everything they have (including quitting school) into becoming a grand master only to fall short at the very top. Many don't even become titled players. I can't help but feel that there is someone out there that thinks they are a failure because they are only an IM and not a GM, as ridiculous as it sounds, and that makes me sad. This is not to mention that most professional chess players make but a pittance. Chess should have more of these nice small gestures to recognize all the hard work and passion many of their players put into the game (especially for the youngsters and elderly).

So, if you’ve been looking at Chess, com’s recent articles, you will see that they have proven that chat GPT is absolutely terrible at chess! HE WOULD RATHER HAVE A QUEEN AND STALEMATE, THEN A PAWN AND CHECKMATE!

magipi, Again, the lazy wokeness shows through. First off "I clearly said 32 not 46 languages", second both me speaking with people ONLINE LIVE and my 14 channels are ALL listeded

I have a question for the genius, how long has it taken you to get to 700 ELO in the English language?

Hello Mr. Polymath. Your initial six-month journey into the chess world is now complete. What has a man of your incredible intellect been able to accomplish in that time? Perhaps you were able to graduate beyond the novice level on another a chess site?

I can't wait for your GM certification, well, I know its a hard task. Are you even over 1500 FIDE now? That's the bare minimum, right?

Well first of all you can't be lazy "sorry, in this 'woke' world now looks you lazy is the only way to live" but if you just put in a, very little reading in this chat's history you'll be able to answer your own question and pretty much any other question you have.

But we both not you don't give a sh*t. You're just Trolling into a "once popular" thread that is pretty much dead now trolling for views to your own profile. Wonderful, actually you're laziness is probably working on this site because I'm sure you have gotten views from posting here.

Good luck!

au contraire, polymath lonnie. no one knows wtf you are trying to say rambling on about wokeness and laziness. but i do know that you are wrong when you assert in your comment that with 'very little reading in this chat's history, you'll be able to answer your own question." my question is pretty simple. what have you been able to achieve in your first six months?? no where in this entire thread is this question answered. true you have stated a long line of ever changing goals, but have you actually ACHIEVED?

oh well, look on the bright side, lonnie. you may not have been able to prove to the world that you are a polymath, but you were able to prove yourself a probable member in good standing of the two-digit IQ club!!!

it has absolutely NOTHING to do with skill, being able to, etc. It has to do with not enough rated games to reach GM within 6 months, not even a year, and that's great for making money which is what the people in charge of chess are only out to do. It's the Boeing effect. Make money for the shareholders at ALL cost. Even lives if it needs be and for Boeing it needed to be.

As a CHES shareholder I can comment on this. "The Board of Directors" voted to not allow you to play rated games which, in turn, makes "The Company" (ticker: CHES) a hefty profit. This is simple economics, I am sure I do not need to explain.

As a CHES shareholder, I have benefited greatly from this brave (albeit ruthless) new policy against you. I am fine with "The Company" continuing to ruin your chess career, and more, if it needs be, in order to continue growing my ROTH IRA.

TLDR: I am a CHES shareholder, and am benefiting from above discussed "Boeing Effect"

Oh, just found this, seems like it was aborted because I see only a very few games. Shame, I would love to see how far one you can go from beginner in six months with a lot of time on their hands. I guess this thread makes me want to go look into tyler1, as he has been recommended by youtube a lot these days, and he did something similar.

actually, i dont think he has learned his lesson. he is proving to be an exceptionally slow learner--especially for a polymath!

What a ridiculous goal lol

"Polimath" guy gave up the whole project almost immediately. He decided that getting better at chess is hard work, so let's not do it.

I know. It's a bold statement but also a long story on how I got to this challenge which I can't cover here. But I'm posting this for all the beginners out their that are having problems learning chess and understanding all the learning material, YouTube channels, advice, books, etc out there and feel they'll just never be good at chess and giving up.

When I took this challenge I wanted more rewarding than just having a rating or title so I decided to "give back" or contribute, if you will, to the game and hopefully bring new people into it. Now this isn't for intermediate or advanced players. This is beginner to beginner advice, experiences, etc. I'm not really teaching I'm just showing people how I will be learning chess completely on my own "and ChatGPT" and reaching the highest level in the game in the shortest amount of time. I to all the beginners reading this "it doesn't really matter to me who believes it or not here" the only one in this universe that needs to believe it is YOU! Or me "in this case" but you get the point.

But for me to do this I have started a YouTube channel to document my progress and a Discord for all beginners. Well anyone really but hopefully it will be mostly a beginner community.

Anyway, hope to play against you all here soon. At the moment I'm go through as much studying for the first two weeks of me getting started. So around Nov 15 or so I should be ready to begin playing. There are 1.5 billion people playing chess and less then 2000 grandmasters . I wonder what is stopping all of us to get the title. Are you aware what has to be done to become a GM - for example how many tournaments and games you should play to get there

I wonder where you get your info from.

Andrea Botez is not a WFM, and her highest FIDE rating is below 1900. If she had any potential to become GM, her rating should have been at least 400 points higher at her current age.

It's her older sister Alexandra the one who's a WFM, and recently she had a remarkable ~2350 performance at Sardinia World Chess Festival - Open B tournament.
