Oh, that's the other game I played against her lol - I meant e4 (in my game as white), it's close to my bedtime hah. That one i went to sleep immediately after.

Nothing wrong with losing, especially vs that high rated a player. I did not expect you to win. Being behind in the opening isn't that big a deal, hence my note that you'd be fine vs lower rated players, just try to remember not to move the pawns as much, better to develop pieces.

The part of the game where you did majorly underperform was in moves 17-23. Watch their pawn. It literally just walked up and ate all your stuff, your opponent didn't perform any tricks, you just seemed to forget it existed, lol. All you had to do was just take it in several of those moves and the problem would have been solved.

Yeah.. Those games weren't exactly my proudest moments! But I'll get there.

No problem! Those are the games you want to post btw. Look over them, have other people review them, etc. If you want to improve at chess find the games that show you the stuff you need to fix the most.

I can explain the non pawn taking I think! I was preoccupied with my A pawn being pinned, and somehow didn't see that I could take with C. The bishop would have lost the exchange if I took, but not as much as it did by being passive. So yeah! I think my own takeaway from that game was "push less pawn" - It was another unfamiliar opening though, in my defense.

@MortenBlunders here are a few checkmate patterns for you:

That's the smothered mate can you reach this position out of this one?

PS: Ignore where the white king is placed

This helps your pattern recognition

Hint: Mate in 4, forced all the way

Also, ignore Qxa8, that doesn't count

This one was tricky for you, all the plays that they had could get hard to follow on your end. In this game the basic idea you want to focus on is seeing what's under attack and making sure it is defended. You often launched attacks on pieces that already wanted to move elsewhere anyways, and didn't notice when certain pieces were under attack.

Playing those games is exactly what you should be doing. Rank up games against other players, facing better players gives you a chance to ask for more analytic advice, but don't be afraid to jump into the rated pool and rack up a game count. Don't be worried about losing, in fact that's a good thing, you'll know which games to look at and pull up if you want other people to analyze them for things to pull out for you.

I think I had that one in a puzzle! happy.png  Knight f7 check, h6 double check (pawn cant move), queen sacrifice on g8 to force rook capture and trap king, then mate on f7!

Starting to get a feeling these games will haunt me! grin.png I lost when I pushed C5 I think. My opponent is a very solid player. Should have spent more time thinking. The clock stressed me out.

Wouldn't all the black pieces be on the board. The answer is obviously Qb8+ Nxb8 Rd8

please let the guy answer

Ohhhh I like that one! happy.png I made sure not to read the spoilers. Took me a while, at first I thought I had to clear away all the pieces, hahah. Queen to b8 forces knight capture (king can't move). Opens up the way to go Rook f8, which is checkmate because of the bishop and f7 pawn! That's a good pattern to look out for, king on the edge with a diagonal pawn. I guess technically it would be checkmate no matter what black has on f7, except a knight? Looks like checkmate even with queen there. Maybe could force such a position with another daring sacrifice on top. happy.png I'll keep this stuff in mind, thanks!

chamo2074

yes good job!

Hmmm.. That one's actually more difficult since I'm material up. This is where my stupid safety instinct kicks in, and I start simplifying or protecting pieces when I don't have to.

I don't really understand how the bishop makes it to f6! What I'm getting is queen takes g7 (king forced to take back), rook to g1 (king h8 cuz other rook stops h6 and f6), and bishop b2 checkmate. Is there a better way?

chamo2074

not exactly to f6 but yo get the pattern
