Help beating Nelson (computer)

Took me a few weeks to beat him (I'm a complete amateur) - SO glad I'm finally past him...

.I love beating this guy, he is so much fun.  I crush him and enjoy it immensely.

A good strategy for Nelson....kick his queen around while developing your pieces, always checking to make sure his queen isn't targeting anything undefended.  Don't just react to him, develop while kicking and you'll annihilate him soon.  In the opening, he can punish you if you don't pay attention (remember just develop while gaining tempos). He blunders like crazy in the middle game, this is where you will crush him.   It seems that the Reti opening often will give you a +2 advantage by move 2.  When I play him, he often makes the dumb move e5 after the reti opening.   In this game he moved e6 but still I destroyed him utterly, look at all his blunders in the middle game.

the best way is to just play solidly as possible. Computer "attacks" at this level are practically non-existient so yeah.

I  started playing chess about 2.5 months ago and up until Nelson, I have been able to swiftly beat the computers after a few days of practice, including Sven and Beth (9 - 1200). Not Nelson though! I've been stuck with this guy for at least a few weeks. Until yesterday, he had been consistently destroying me in the first 10 moves. Then I finally had enough after yet another humiliating defeat, found GothamChess' video and studied the moves until I remembered everything. He beat me a dozen more times after that, but then this happened. I probably blundered a few times and definitely missed a quicker mate, and maybe just got lucky, but somehow won the game. Long story short, don't give up hope! After a while, his attacks become very predictable. Don't actively chase his queen, just focus on defending your pieces and NEVER leave anything hanging. The queen eventually traps herself...

nelson was first frustrating bot to me. Because he is successful with his darn queen. he goes for the weak knight pawns , and the rooks if you develop your bishops without thought....drive him back before doing that and he gives up. after that he makes a few blunders.

trading Queens may be useful, but I won because "he" did a mistake in the middle game

There are 2 main things about Nelson:

1. His "strategy" of attacking early with the queen is bad. You can easily get a huge lead in development and a crushing position.

2. He is extremely likely to blunder something (usually the queen) in the early game.

I have found that the most fun games are when I let him have a pawn or two in the opening. For example: 1. e4 e5 2. d4 Qh4(?) 3. Nf3 Qxe4+ 4. Be2.

Even the greedy computer likes white's position here. (Evaluation: +1.5)

I would say to develop your pieces, notice and defend his nasty tactics and attacks, and castle the opposite side of his castle. For example, if he castles queenside you castle kingside, and vice versa. Now you can start a pawn storm since you won’t weaken your king as your king is on the other side! Other ways to try to win is to trade down pieces to an endgame, break open the center. When your in doubt for what to do after you fully develop, break open the center or attack the king.

wornaki, I also had great success trading queens with Nelson, and to anybody else who is having trouble, I recommend it.

It's the easiest way. Also Nelson is amenable to a trade in the middlegame, if you block his attacks while developing in the opening. Also, Nelson blunders horribly in the endgame, for the most part and anybody could take advantage of that. For instance... this game shows how weak Nelson is... In a well played endgame, the result would've been a draw.

Blocking his queen made the trick. Also I have tried to capture deploying my other pieces and
structure.

Be a coward. Think about the situation like you're scared of his queen and it becomes a lot easier to handle him. Don't try to take control of the game, don't try to make him scared of you, don't worry about efficient pushing out. Blockade your king, slowly, slowly develop when he develops and blockade tighter if he attacks. Trade 3-pointers for each other readily, if there's no significant safety-tradeoff.

Nelson is most feared while one plays as black, but never fear the bot that plays the Botez Gambit. While it didn't happen in this game, Nelson loves being forked by a knight on C2 forks the king and a rook.

its simple git gud

Brummel1960

Neutralize queen, and don´t lose sight the rest of your developement -a good advice for ALL matches-
I am playing as guest with black.

 Hope this helps

Offer a queen trade early and you'll be fine😁
