Help from exp.ed French Defense players

I'm a beginner in the French Defense. I'm confused about the king-safety.

What if White decides to sac the horse on f7?

I know that the comp would say I'm winning, but... I'm no comp.

he soon comes with the queen...

What would you suggest?

p.s., the stucked bishop is Never a problem, so far.

It's not possible to checkmate with just one piece. So when white "comes with the queen" don't worry about it.

Meanwhile develop some more pressure on d4 / the queenside. After your start generating threats white will have to give up on the attack, and you'll be a knight ahead, no compensation for your opponent.

the point is, after the sac, the queen has annoying checks. so what to do?

Black seems to be winning rather handily after 11. ... g6 12. Bxg6+ Kd8 and now White's Queen can't go to f7, Black is still up a piece (for two Pawns) and is threatening cxd4.

12...Nf6 looks comfortable.

I suggest less cowardice.  Like, take the wn.png, win the game.  Are you kidding me.

Lmao I totally agree

If you are scared of the knight sack and you probably should not be. You can play knight h6 as the knight will be good on f5 anyway.

Thanks, that's a good solution.

That's the engine solution. It's a fun idea.

... Be7 looks odd to me, in that game. With the king knight not yet developed, Black's bishop ends up getting in the way.

Simpler would be this:

...Nh6 deals with the knight sac that you're worried about. It also allows black's development to continue to flow naturally.

Black looks already much better. He has cxd4 threats, pressure on b2, and both his king knight and king bishop are free to maneuver.

White will likely have to retreat his knight back to f3 at some point, admitting the mistake of his Ng5 move, and lose tempo in the process.

I would say just be aware of the threat and see how he can use it to hurt you and see if you have time to stop it.

you hope your opponent plays more stuff like Nxf7 so you can get more comfortable with annoying queen checks.

One thing I will say is that Greek Gift sacrifices are very lethal against the French which is why you need to be careful if you are going to castle kingside. Your pawns are locked up and sometimes it is best not to castle
