Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected chess coach and chess YouTuber who helps beginners out :

Many beginners start with the e4/ e5 opening. This results in openings such as the Spanish Game, Russian Game, Italian Game, and more. Then focus on getting the knights and bishops out toward the center.
Playing d4 is also equally good!
Quite simply, there are several bad opening moves, but no best opening move. Anyone who tries to tell you that one move is best is lying to you.

1.d4 for ratings divisible by 3 (about 1 in 3 games)
1.e4 for ratings divisible by 2 (about 1 in 3 games if the rule for d4 trumps e4)
1.c4 for ratings that are prime numbers (about 1 out of 7 games)
1.Nf3 for all others (about 1 out of 5 games)

Haha, ok, but maybe I shouldn't be overly silly when someone is asking a real question.
There is no best move.
It's possible to play a reasonable opening by following a few principles (link below). For the first few moves you mostly you want to prioritize:
1) King safety
2) Piece activity (particularly knights and bishops)

There are no good and bad openings... just good and bad chess players
You shouldn't be out there trying to find the best opening ever. You should play the opening that's best for you. You can find out "your" opening by asking yourself these simple questions.
1. Am I a positional player or tactical player? (If you like tactics don't go for the caro-kaan or classical qgd)
2. Do I want to win or lose? (If you want to lose, then just blitz out 1.g4, 2.f4)
3. Do I want to have any friends at all? (If you do, then pls don't play the London System)
