high ranking and number of games - Chess Forums

Hello, While looking to the rankings in the top 10000, I was surprised to find players with, for example, 50 games and having more than 1500 points. How is that possible, if everyone, except the grand masters, starts at 100 or zero (I don't remember) ? Do they challenge very high ranking players ?

First 10–20 games affect rating dramatically.

Sometimes people join the site being mature players already. So, it takes less time to get 1500+. Plus, while registering, I think, you can already establish initial rating as 1600 (or something like this).
