How are some people just so good at blitz but have crap rapid ratings??

I get that, but seeing tactics, whether it's quick or slow is still seeing tactics.. I wonder why some people can't see tactics in their slower games but do pretty well when the clock is ticking.. it's just wired to me.. you'd think it would be the other way around.

because they dont know how to think and calculate rapid is the only one where you do that but i guess 5 min also

its not tactics its forming a plan

Blitz chess often relies more on pattern recognition and intuition rather than deep calculation. Players who excel at recognizing common tactical patterns quickly may perform better in blitz games.

I like really slow or really fast chess. Rapid is the middle zone where it's hard to really punish someone for thinking too long, and yet you don't have time for deep calculation, either.
I avoid Rapid for these reasons, and really think it just comes down to preference. Different style of the game.

Maybe sometimes I get unlucky then and pull someone who (even though they don't have a rating past 700) are really good at pattern recognition, where I must struggle at that unless I have time to think. Usually I just make a one off blunder that i can't dig myself out of, and my opponent plays perfectly to stay ahead.

maybe he doesnt play rapid alot, and just because he didnt make any blunders doesn mean hes good.
