That's a very common mistake. When your opponent is low on time, it HE the one that needs to play fast, not YOU. You have extra time, use it to think of good moves, don't waste that advantage just for a cheap shot at a flagging win (which usually does not come, more often you just blunder yourself and switch from a winning position to a losing position).

i also sometimes premove blunder

I have been trying to get better. I watch and read a lot of things on how to get better at chess, but every game I make huge blunders and throw the game and my rank only goes down. How do I stop making so many blunders?

The rule I use is that you should play time controls that give you enough time to be confident that, within your knowledge and ability, every move you make is at least a good move.

Doesn't have to be the BEST move on the board, but should never be a blunder that's a direct result of rushing.

Now, masters, who have memorised heaps of theory, and who can instantly recognise certain patterns, may be able to play a 3-minute game and be confident that they're making strong moves every time, but I sure can't. These days, most of my games are 30-minute Rapid, and if I play Blitz I tend to go for 10 minutes each.

im not confident that i can make good moves in 3 min and 5 min but i still win the majorty ofgames

You will still win games against people of a similar rating, but in order to climb up the rankings you'll need to improve so you can beat better players. I believe firmly that playing THE BEST CHESS YOU CAN is the way to improve, and that means taking as much time as you need to play the best moves. Simple as that.

Sure, that's certainly possible, and it's an achievement to be proud of. I'm not knocking that.

However, it is possible to improve at blitz to a certain level, without getting much better at chess.

One way is to learn a few unusual openings or gambits that will surprise low-rated opponents, but which could be easily refuted as your opponents get better, which could cause you to hit the wall.

Another possibility is that you're playing from pure brainpower, using quick wits to beat lower-rated players who just aren't as smart, without really understanding the fundamental principles that will allow you to progress further.

Whatever, you've done great, well done... and I would like to see you progress still further in your play.

Hi noobatchess1234567

The way you are playing will get you wins to a certain level but your potential for growth will be limited.

For example you say you win the majority of games, and looking at your blitz that's true, 945 won and 888 lost. But delving deeper shows 196 wins by timeout vs 49 losses by timeout.

So if you take "timeout" out as the determining factor, which is just who can play faster not better, you're at 749 wins and 839 losses.

I'm not bashing you at all, nobody can tell you you are doing anything right or wrong. I think the point trying to be made is that you're limiting yourself is all. Thats the thing about the chess community we all just want each other to be the best we can be my friend

Epic_player03

good point the reason why i play blitz is beacuse i play faster than most and i put people in time pressure and they blunder

Epic_player03

well i just lost to a 1079 who won with 1 second left so i guess that strategy dosent work

Luigi4011

lol tahts funny

NubbyCheeseking

This may seem odd

But you just do sometimes

I played chess every day and subtly got better

I also watched agadmator, and other chess youtubers

I went from 600-1170 in around 5 months I think

st0ckfish

the key is to not hang pieces. if i didnt hang pieces and played a bit faster, i should be at least 1900 now. unfortunately, i still do ._.
