Use all the time allowed by the time control.
Blunder check before you move.

Don’t let the time pressure you to much

Do the lessons for beginners, and set custom puzzles to from 100 to 1000. I'm already beginning to see patterns from the puzzles in my games.

I’ve kinda been hovering around that level, but have started winning a few and moved above 500. The main thing for me was to stop those blunders - not totally, but there’s a lot less than there were. Double check every move - you have time, especially if playing 15/10 rapid.

450 is not super terrible. The average rating is only about 600-700 range.

You get better at rapid chess mostly by eliminating your errors, exploiting opponent errors and following good opening principles. Here is an in-depth blog I wrote on opening principles years ago; this could help you get to 1000+ rating:

I also recommend learning basic theoretical endgames such as this video I made for King + pawn vs King. It is an important endgame all chess players should know:

Start playing over the board, classic time control chess. Only way to truly get better.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I'm a well established chess teacher based in California! I love helping beginners out, so I have two ideas for you to get better.

  1. Attend my FREE online workshop every Wednesday at 11:30pm Central time. You can ask me questions in real time! I’ll be happy to analyze your chess games, teach you opening traps, endgame techniqes, and more! Here’s more details:

https://www.chessbylauren.com/blog/FreeOnlineWorkshop

2. Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”. Do this for every single move! Your goal is to never make any silly blunders!

I hope that this helps!

Okay at this junction I should just make a standard posting for "how to get better at chess".

As a complete beginner (ELO 400):

- Make sure that you understand all chess rules. Know the meaning of the chess terms: castling, stalemate, en passant, pawn conversion

- Reserve like a quarter hour per day do solve puzzles. You can do longer, but make sure its a time span you can do daily without losing motivation, to constantly train your brain to see combinations instantly when they occur. Download the free "Lucas Chess R" chess interface and do the Mate in 1 and then the Mate in 2 puzzles to get a first basis for seeing tactics.

- In the opening, follow the general principles: develop your pieces, fight for the center, bring your king to safety.

- Watch the first Speedrun by GM Daniel Naroditsky and the first and current and only Speedrun by IM Eric Rosen on YouTube, they are very instructive for players of all skillevels below mastership, especially also for newbies

- For a complete beginner I wouldnt do much else yet, though you can already look into the most basic endgames, too. Learn how to checkmate the endgames K + Q vs K, K + R vs K, K + B + B vs K.

- Always make sure you have fun
