The first time I learned how to play, and played, I was 7. However, I did not get serious until I was 13, so I consider my starting point to be 13
How old were you when you started playing chess?

First tournament: 12
Broke 1000 USCF: 14, almost 15
Broke 1500 USCF: 15

Broke 2000 USCF: 18
Broke 2100 USCF: 20
Currently: 21, 2171
For a player of my strength I got a very late start (maybe not to chess in general but to tournaments and to studying the game, which I didn't do until high school age)

I was 8 yeats old when my father taught me basics of chess. I couldn't understand a thing he told me about knight's movement. But slowly I got my interest in it as I came across an amaging chess program on computer (battle chess) and an electronic chess board that he gave me to play with.

I am now an 8 year old boy. I started chess when I was 4. I played with a rule that was: When we will capture the king of our opponent, the game ends
But that rule applies to everyone

Welcome all. I began to lead the chess channel. He is very young, but a lot of new and interesting is planned. I would be grateful for your support.

I started in kindergarten(5 years) and quit in 6th grade due to a lack of progress
but now I’m back
I started when I was 11.
Old man
Bruh, I am better at 3 minute than you, even though you are older than me.
wtf, you are older than me
No offense wt# please 😔😔
Alright, that’s ok

I properly started playing chess only at around 12 years of age. Before that I remember playing it sometime with my grandfather while I was 6 . I barely knew how the pieces moved and had no idea about the game. I would just try to simply capture more number of pieces ....that being said I would even trade my queen for two pawns...

WoW!

I started playing chess at aged 9 , i joined my first club at aged 18 with a BCF 125 grade. Became a good club player entered congresses most weekends scoring 4-6 rounds, i did win I have played against GM Jon Speelman and lost, i was lucky enough to meet GM Tony Miles year before he died. Gave up chess in 1987. So very old and rusty
BCF 125 grade= ELO 1750-1875
So now you are 63 right?

Started playing at official events at 16, which is pretty late.
I played a lot back then, and studied a lot, so I got the FM title 4 years later (no trainers and such). Only attended some brief team training sessions with IM Pavlos Gesos, IM Tibor Florian and later with GM Efim Geller.
