How realistic is it for me to be able to hit 2000 in the various time controls within a year?

I am currently 1590 rapid 1732 blitz and 1902 bullet (puzzle 2853 but not super important) would it be realistic for me to be able to hit 2000 in these categories before august 2023? or not and if not what is a more realisitic expectation for me to have. I understand if i practice and study 8h a day its a lot more realistic but i really mean without increasing my play or study amount or content consumed very much. For reference i started playing more seriously in november/december of last year.

2000 is stretching it a little, but I believe you can do it.

What would you reccomend to be the best way for me to achieve this without needing to add a lot of hours of study/play? and if increasing my play/study is all there is then give me a reality check

At the end of the day, putting more time toward studying/playing is probably what will help you the most. Of course knowing what you need to work on is also very helpful. If you were to put in 4 hours a day, you can reach 2000 in a year, or at least very close.

I was 1650 rapid at 8/1/2021 and I even peaked at 2105. (I'm kinda falling off already im back all the way down to the 1960s) The point is that if you put in the work and effort, you can do it. You've told me in the past that you weren't really interested in playing chess seriously, so I dont really see a rush in it anyways.

i dont really remember our conversation but i really just ment i dont see this as a career option and i doubt IM/GM would ever be close to possible, but yeah i just dont know if ill have enough time to dedicate because im a senior in highschool taking 4 AP class's and 3 dual enrollments im in several clubs and i compete in fencing at a high level, and next year i head to college so its like do i have the time to dedicate?

Yikes! dual enrollment is pretty tough, my brother couldnt enjoy our trip to the beach because of all the paperwork. I think you should remember that you don't need to rush with these goals, you have your entire life ahead of you. If i were you, i would focus on schoolwork, and then use your freetime on something you enjoy, if it is chess then spend those hours on studying/improving, if its not dont sweat it.

I can kind of relate happy.png

I'm a sophomore in high school, part of the International Baccalaureate Program (if you know what that it), and I take decent classes with a few APs.

However, chess is my major extracurricular (as far as college apps go), meaning I can dedicate time to doing it (approx 3hrs a day, with a little more/less on weekends)

So yeah, if you want to join the chess team or something in college, or feel like chess could be something beneficial to your future, I would suggest continuing, but otherwise, you should focus on your schoolwork!

You are a very rare player who has higher (and not just slightly, but much higher) blitz than rapid rating. Rapid ratings are inflated compered to blitz ratings, so you really perform a lot better in faster time controls, which can also be seen by your bullet rating. May I ask you a question, do you play 15+10, 30+0, 45+45, 60+0 rapid games or just 10+0 rapid? When it comes to your question, I think reaching 2000 in bullet is possible in a year. Gaining 250 points in blitz isn't easy, gaining 400 points in rapid is even harder. You probably won't reach 2000 in those 2 time controls in the next 365 days.

Im doing both right now im just saying i dont think i can actively increase the amount of dedication i give to chess which isnt a ton per day but i definetely get games in throughout the day/week my trophie number shows that, but yeah i just have a lot on my plate

I play 10+0 typically but i have done some 15+10 and what would you say would be best for me to focus on to achieve 2000?

Random question but how did you put that thing under your profile with your stats? idk how to do that, and the thing i mean is where you put your accomplishments and goals and the under 3000 elo quote how do you put that there?

I took a look at your profile, you improved a lot in the last year, just keep doing what you are doing and maybe you get to 2000 blitz by August 2023 given how fast you have improved so far.

I believe you're referring to the "About Me" section, which you can edit in your profile settings
