Have you ever gotten a brilliant move? If so, amazing! If not, this could help you.

The first brilliant moves are made when they involve a strong sacrifice or an amazing move. On this forum, I will only focus on the sacrificing part because it's the easiest.

Most brilliant sacrifices are discovered attacks or eventual checkmate sacrifices.

Brilliant moves on this website were apparently once a great thing at one point. Then they dumbed them down. Hard.

it's true, but beginner players still really want them, so why not just help them get it.

There are quite a few simple "brilliant" moves to be found in various opening traps. The most famous one is the "correct" response to the terrible Damiano Defense:

Brilliant moves are usually the result of something being the only move in the position where the engine identifies the move as the top move, but there is a big drop off from there to other moves, usually greater than the value of a rook. So, if every other move is a swing against the player of more than 5 pawns in evaluation that is a brilliant move. Sometimes there could be two moves, one of them could be a Great move the other Brilliant and the rest blunders. Sometimes you get them for strange things that would be principally obvious, and other times for unusual play like sacrifices.

@15 No, that is why I play 2.e4 and bail out into a centre gambit game.

why are people so fixated on brilliant moves? they're meaningless

I will show how to find these moves because what #1 said is not good. You need to find what pieces can go to your opponent’s half territory and see weaknesses and take advantage of them. Weaknesses like king safety, pieces with loose defense, and pawn structure.

Queen sacrifices.....revealed attacks....

Brilliant moves get stale. I get one probably every 20-30 games and it gets boring afterwards. I got one today in my daily game, but it is not finished. Oops, sorry for bragging.
