How to improve at blitz?

My tactical knowledge in rapid is fine, my calculation skills in daily are pretty good, and even my instincts in bullet have served me well. Yet there's just something about blitz that I struggle with the most. What does blitz really encourage in players?

because is slower than bullet (so just premoving standard moves will not win you any game) but way faster than rapid/classical (which means you still have basically no time to think about moves which is a big problem for intermediate/beginner players).

Learn some easy tactics and that can help

focus at rapid first so that your tactical calculations improve on your game. focusing on blitz first is a bad idea because you dont have enough time on making a concrete plan against your opponent

Blitz is the mix between slow and fast Chess that you either love or hate.

To become a better Blitz player, you need to use your instincts, but also know when the position is critical, and when you should use your time.

-

To get better at it:

1) When you see a good move, play it.

In Blitz - especially without increment - you don't have a lot of time to think about your moves, and you just need to play something.

2) Play 2-3 openings, and not anything more than 3.

Reason is: By playing so few openings, you gain a huge amount of experience with them in 3+0, and will be able to play the opening in bullet speed, or even hyper-bullet speed against your opponents, will gain an upper-hand time-wise, and will be able to out-play your opponents with the extra time.

3) When the game enters flagging-territory, take the initiative, if you can!

Start giving checks, make threats, etc.

If you get the initiative when it's become a flagging-contest, you will control the game.

4) Limit yourself to a select number of games per-day, which isn't high.

Reason is: If you play a lot of games every-day, your mind - eyes - and body will become tired, you will become tilted, and the quality of your play - plus, the amount of effort you put into the games decrease.

Quality over quantity.

5) Do regular physical exercise.

Blitz Chess - especially without increment - damages your health.

Walking - lifting weights - doing push-ups, are all things that will greatly improve your health, and enable you to keep-up with Blitz.

I don't think blitz can actually damage one's health (physically at least). But I'll try to apply the other 4 as best as I can.
