Each of the pieces have their own letter (except pawn) K = King Q = Queen R = Rook B = Bishop N = Knight Different types of moves in chess have their own letter/symbol: x = takes (captures) + = Check # = Checkmate = = Promotes to , then add the letter of the pieces you're promoting to (Q for Queen, R for rook, B for Bishop, & N for Knight). For example: d8=Q, f1=N+, c8=R, etc.. O-O = Casting on the kingside (AKA short casting) O-O-O = Casting on the queen side (AKA long casting) *Note that pawns don't have a letter or symbol. When you move a pawn, write down the square you're moving it to (For example: c4, b5, a3, e5, d3, h6, f2, g7, etc..)* If you capture a piece with one of your pieces (except a pawn), write down the following things in this order. 1. The letter of the piece (K for King, Q for Queen, R for Rook, N for Knight, & B for Bishop)., 2. The letter 'x'., 3. The square your opponent's piece was on when you captured it. If you give check (+) or checkmate (#), write down the appropriate symbol at the end. If you capture a piece write a pawn, write down the following things in the order: 1. The letter of the file (AKA column) where your pawn was before capturing an opponent's piece., 2. The letter 'x'., 3. The square that the piece you captured with your pawn was on. I hope this was helpful enough for all of you beginners who want to learn more about the game of chess and how to track every move you make in your games. Yours truly, MaestroDelAjedrez2025

I have a habit of putting a period at the end of each sentence so remove the period. I am on app so I can’t edit it.

That was Italian game theory and to be more specific the guicco piano and it is trap theory and you shoukd try to put it in your head and practice and learn some Italian lines you don’t know about.

When I was a kid, I found a newspaper with a Karpov-Kasparov game in it. I didn't have internet to get help, so I figured it all out by myself, and it was very easy. Everything is obvious and self-explanatory, the only symbol that made me pause was 0-0.

See also: Disambiguation. When two or more pieces of the same type can move to one square, one must be extra specific.

Disambiguation most commonly occurs when rooks "see" each other. Moves such as Rad1 (rook on the a-file goes to d1) if they're on the same rank, or R3g5 (rook on the third rank goes to g5) if they're on the same file, may occur.

In extreme cases, there may be instances where three or even four pieces could move to a square if desired. If this happens, it might be necessary to be as specific as possible. For example, if there are queens on h8, h1, and a8, moving the h8 queen to capture a piece on a1 would require the ridiculous looking (but nonetheless correct) notation "Qh8xa1."

I forgot about that, but I am too used to typing chess notations so I do it if I need to.
