You have to play different opponents not just your friend. There are 63,000,000 chess players in the world and you are limiting yourself to 1. Then study your games win or lose or draw. Learn from them.
When you beat 500-rated friends, you gain only a small amount of Elo because the system already expects you to occasionally win, especially in casual or unrated contexts. What really raises your rating is consistently winning rated games over time, not a few isolated wins. Early ratings can also lag behind actual strength if you haven’t played many games yet. The best thing you can do is keep playing rated rapid, blitz, and bullet games, review your losses, and avoid resigning too early. Consistency is key. I review my games, learn from losses, and work on tactics and endgames to steadily improve my ELO.

Honestly, just look up how to counter queen attacks and fried liver. Learn the Traxler counter attack if you wanna be fancy, it's quite easy to memorize. Just develop and control the center. Don't trade unless you gain an advantage from the trade. Protect all your pieces. Wait for your opponent to screw up and you will reach 500. You will fail at first, just keep grinding. This is from someone who was stuck at level 100 when I started. It takes about of month before you understand the basic fundamentals. People 100-300 don't implement chess fundamentals. You might see moves as good as your friends but your fundamentals are just lacking probably.

I have an elo of 190 but I can beat people with 400 and I did like about 15 times so far
Why yes lower rated people will occasionally beat higher rated people, thats completely normal and to be expected.
A 100% win chance is archieved mathematically around 700 points of rating, however in practice people are fallible so 100% is never archieved.
It’s been like 2 years when I made this post and looking back, idk why somone got pressed abt the title, and why somone thought I lied abt beating 500 elo 💀 (if I lied o would a picked a bigger number) but thank you for the tipss and I got a little bit better😮
