I am very lost

Simply put, bots are overrated. You and I could both beat the Magnus bot if we tried enough times. This is because pretty much all bots below Stockfish's level are programmed to randomly play incredibly bad (or, in some cases, completely braindead) moves; a higher Elo merely decreases the chance of this occurring and typically makes the blunders much less obvious, but they still occur.
Some bots are also made purely to know how to counter playing styles that are objectively bad, but can be deadly if the opponent is unprepared. (Sven's overly defensive play and Nelson's wayward queen nonsense are the two best examples of this.) Meanwhile, humans can have many different playing styles, so you have no idea what you're playing against and thus can never be fully prepared. Also, they obviously cannot be "programmed" to randomly make idiotic moves.
In short: the unpredictability of a human causes them to be much more difficult than a bot (until you reach a certain point).
