I feel like I'm getting worse?

I just began watching more lessons while spending more time with chess in general especially computers and strangely I feel like I've been playing worse than when I didn't know jack against other players. Why might this be? Any suggestions?

No one said a few lessons and puzzles and WhACK On ThE FaCe you are now better. Take a break at least 2 - 3days.

Maybe you are in an excited stage. Keep on being calm and repeat and rinse.

Make a new avatar and get out of the current rank you're assigned.  That can boost your confidence.  If you are stuck playing people with a similar rank, you either lose to cheaters or get bored playing the same tactics over and over.

You will get better at chess. It's not a linear progression.

ChesswithGautham  has good advice about taking a break.  At least a day or two away gives  your subconscious a chance to process all the information you've diligently acquired.  Your brain will also feel refreshed when you come to chess.  It's possible that  you've absorbed so much by learning that you have mental overload, which leads to fatigue, and that can keep you from playing your best.

So yes, do take abreak and DO NOT READ A CHESS BOOK during your time away from the board - har!

Learning stuff is getting out of your comfortzone and experimenting. In the long run that’s the way to improvement. In the short run not.

But… is it true that you are getting worse. Your rating doesn’t indicate it (it’s a pitty chess.com doesn’t provide a trendline).

The more you spend with lessons & puzzles the better you will become..indeed taking time off away from actual game play is essential. Focus on study, and in due time you will return a much greater player than before. I myself take much time to study and learn as much as I can watching videos on openings, taking lessons, solving puzzles and taking notes. So play less & study more. Be patient while learning and when you return to game play mode, continue to study while you play, this in return, will greatly sharpen your ability to play much better moves. For example; I will play about 5 rapid games, stop, do lessons & puzzles and return back to play mode. The greatest players got where they are simply by remaining "diligent" in their studies and continuous learning from many chess resources. This app provides the greatest amount of learning tools to gain from. Utilize these essential tools and you will see immediate results #becomeamember2day #goldmember #proud2be #wishingyougreatsuccess

You’ve probably been playing too much. Take a break.

I'm glad it's not just me. I have experience the same thing. I've been watching videos online, reading about different openings etc and my rating was going down and I was losing games. However, it's started going back up the last few days and have been on a winning streak. Maybe its just perseverance..

sometimes when learning something new in chess it causes you to drastically change you playing style and it might make you play worse until you get used to it. this is mostly caused by playing a new opening.

Can someone help me please. I have just joined and have been playing 10 minute games. What does it mean when I loose to ‘timeout’? Very frustrating when half way through a game my opponent stops playing then I loose through ‘timeout’??
