I need help with my chess

Hey, i recently picked up chess again, i used to play chess against my dad/brother when i was a kiddo but now i started taking it more seriously after a decade (i used to know nothing about openings, castling or the all famous en passant) but now i've tried to learn these things and man i'm having a tough time.

I've tried to learn Queens Gambit for opening but i just keep forgetting after 4-6 moves what to do and i get confused when my enemies don't play the usual stuff.

Also i've trained hard on puzzles now ( im at 1400 if that's relevant) but still i found myself in situations where i lose against 600 rated players in rapid. but sometimes 800-1000 rated players feels like they are doing a lot of blunders and i gain the advantage.

Your guidance and tips will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

For example this game i played very poorly and made a quite many bad moves and blunders but i only won because of my enemy made a blunder and i was able to see how to play it. otherwice i'd have lost hard

just play a bunch of online chess, and de-rust yourself. It really helps.

blitz is best for de-rusting imo

puzzles on chess.com are also horribly inflated, chesstempo is better i think

1400 puzzles rating is different than being 1400 rapid rated but keep working on the tactical puzzles. Shoot for 3000!

Ive been grinding puzzles lately after a bad tilt, finally back in the 1400 rapid club and hopefully inch towards 1500.

chesstempo.com works well with me.

Play slower game (10 min is way too fast for you).

And Think carefully before each of your moves and after each of your opponents moves to understand their intent and play against better players than you often and after a few hundreds games you will learn a lot from them.

And play often because it takes a lot of games to really improve and to get to 1300-1400 here...

Good luck.

my puzzles pb is 3600:  1400 is very low.

keep doing puzzles & puzzle rush, but forget about the timer & really try hard to solve each one correctly... once your pattern-recognition is fully developed, puzzle rush speed & scores will automatically increase & tactical ability will improve.

also try to take at least 1 lesson per day for strategy.

Hi,

You may find this ChessAble course helpful. It's basically an old classic book turned into a ChessAble course- and it's free!
