I have Played chess on occasion since I was a kid. The past year and a half I developed quite a bit of passion. I love the game, I love watching good games but I’m not comfortable with my own play yet. I’m not sure how I can improve. Do I need to start reading some books and memorizing some openings? I’m doing a lot of puzzles lately and playing against the chess.com computer. I was able to beat the 1000 rating and the 1100 rating. I’m moving slowly upwards to see where get stuck. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve?

Building Habits by Chessbrah on Youtube should help, you might already know them. Beside that, you will need openings obviously at some point any ways, i would try some logical strucures(French Defense, Queens Gambit, Queens Gambit Declined) and see if you feel comfortable with it.

Hi! My name is Lauren Goodkind and I’m a respected  chess coach and chess YouTuber based in California:

I have tips and resources to help you improve your chess skills so you can win more games.

-I  offer a  free beginner’s free eBook on my website, in case you are interested. The book is about asking questions before each move.

-I recommend two books for you: “50 Poison Pieces”   and “Queen For A Day: The Girl’s Guide To Chess Mastery.”  Both books are available on Amazon.com.  Both books are endorsed by chess masters!

-If you are serious about chess, I highly recommend you hiring a chess coach to help you.

-Also consider all checks and captures on your side and also your opponent’s side. Always as, “If I move here, where is my opponent going to move?”

I hope that this helps.
