Idea to help people new to chess

When you sign up to chess.com,you get to choose your elo based on your skill level. The lowest is 200: new to chess. But this is a very broad term, either could be someone playing for a couple of months or someone who just learnt how the pieces move. I think that there should be 'very new to chess' which is 100 elo or something similar. Also the original 'new to chess' should be 175.

#6 Hi, but this has no relation to the topic

when you join your rating can vary a lot based on if you win or not, why make the difference 75 points if one can just lose those 75 points in one game. Also, if you have been playing chess for months and you are 100 compared to someone who just started and 100 that means that you are the same strength. I think it is not the Elo that is the problem but the name “new to chess,” they should rename it to “complete beginner” maybe to avoid this type of confusion

That would be good, but I always like knowing if my elo goes up or down because that tells me something. I think that if you’re new, you should play a chess game or something, then the app tells you what your exact elo is

#9 It wouldn't work sayinh what your elo says, often game review says I play like a 1200 when I play rapid even though I am 700, but that's just because I play reasonably like 90% of the time but that 10% is the most random blunders that I notice right after I move

no, I don't mean the elo like how I played. I mean my elo in general.

otherwise, no, it wouldn't work just saying what your elo was in a game
