If I improve my puzzle rating will my rapid rating necessarily follow?

I started chess a couple years ago in my mid-20s with the goal of reaching 1000 Rapid rating. Tactics has been my main way of training to get better at chess. My puzzle rating is currently just over 2000 and my rapid rating is 862. I figure if I'm regularly working to increase my puzzle rating then my rapid rating should follow... but is that correct? Will I need to diversify my study plan in order to keep improving my rating?

No. Personal experience.

You should learn most important principles of a chess game. That will give you a solid understanding of a chess game and you will know what to do in every position. Then, you should optimize your calculation so you don't miss tactics in your games. I can help you with all of this. Message me if you are interested.

Muppet,

My ratings in rapid and puzzle are not  that much different from yours.

I've been playing for a couple of years and I'd like to get to 1000.

What i've noticed is that when I've had a good run on puzzles my success in actual games takes a bit of a nose dive.  Vice-versa, when I'm having a good run in actual games my success in puzzles takes a nose dive.   MY problem, I think, is middle game tactics; finding but particularly creating middle game tactical opportunities.

good luck to you

Suppose you focus on puzzles and stop playing rapid altogether. Then your rapid rating won't increase even though your puzzles rating will.

So no. Not necessarily
