Is it typical to be much better in tactics than actual play?

My overall tactics is currently 1743, but I can't seem to get past 1200 in 10 minute rapid. I'm stuck at 1050 in 5 minute blitz. Is it normal to be this much higher in tactics than in actual play? I'm really not quite sure what's wrong, as my accuracy is usually 75+ in Blitz and 90+ in rapid; Any suggestions?

Puzzle rating is its own separate kind of rating system and is not equivalent to rating in games.

I have the same problem, I can’t get past 1300 in rapid and I’m heading towards 2000 in puzzles

Rating in Puzzles seems to be around 500 points higher than your rapid/blitz rating. I am around 1650-1700 in Blitz and Rapid, but managed to surpass 2150+ in Puzzles.

my puzzles is about the same as my rapid so i don't really understand.

This isnt unusual. Also they keep changing the rating points system. Like games, the amount of points you get in puzzles depends on the difference between your rating and the puzzle rating. Outside the time bonus, you used to get 1pt for solving a puzzle that was significantly less than your rating. A few months back this increased to 5 pts. My impression is that the amount of pts you lose hasn't changed. This makes it easier to progress in puzzles.

Yes, I think it is typical to have a higher tactics/puzzles rating than game rating.

In games you may miss opportunities and also threats, because you don't know for sure  they're there in any given position. If at first you don't see them, you are unlikely to take extra time to find them. However, in puzzles, while you may not know exactly what is there (unless doing a given type of puzzle), you do know that there is/are move(s) you should find when doing puzzles. Simply being sure there are moves to find, you will look harder for them, especially when they may not be obvious. And, as noted above, puzzles are rated differently based on your rating, the puzzle's rating and the time taken to solve (or not).

puzzles have little or nothing to do with your playing rating on this site. I can't remember how I found it but on this site you can view the top puzzlers. I recall the first and second had puzzle ratings of over 60,000, yes, 60 thousand! So talk of 500 points difference is very wide of the mark.

Puzzle ratings are quite inflated.

I'm 2900 puzzle rating and 2000 blitz.

It's normal for your tactics/puzzle rating to be way higher than your game rating.

I'm about 700 blitz and 1500 puzzle, so I agree with what everybody else is saying. The puzzle rating lets you track your own improvement, and gives you a little motivation to try to patiently solve it correctly and think, which I don't do much of in 3 minute blitz. I don't look at either rating number much, it is what it is, and for blitz serves nicely to supply opponents who only beat me about half the time.

Its totally normal. Just play more people - lots and lots of 5-10 minute games and then analyse your mistakes properly and try to redo them. If you want to get better at playing the game against a person and not a computer you need to practice the game.

I think the tactics rating on chess.com is highly inflated.

Generally... yes, if only because a tactics puzzle is essentially a sandbox position, in which your trying to find a specific move. In a chess game, the position changes every time a piece moves, so your kinda limited by the clock on how much time you can spend on a given move looking for the best move. Plus in a game, your not only looking for tactics, but positional moves also, trying to decide things that will permanently change the scope and shape of the game.

It's better to compare your tactics rating to other players of a similar playing strength to yourself than to compare your own ratings compared to each other. The tactics ratings are very inflated.
