i can recommend you some youtube channels if you want !
Just for fun?
I'm the same way. I'm 46 and been playing off and on for about a year. I'm not looking to be a master level player but still studying enough to put up a good game. If you need someone to play, I'm available for daily games.

Here are some general tips on how to improve:

I hope you will find them useful.

I respectfully suggest my own channel, Chess Boot Camp. I'm 48 and 1500 rated in rapid. My videos are aimed at people who want to break 1000++.
I also recommend Gotham. His videos and streams are very beginner-/intermediate-friendly. Other streamers are more advanced and even experimental.
Again, thanks everyone for your help. I decided I will not use the Ysupov book (yet), I will start at the very beginning, and I am using the Chess for Dummies book. Baby steps, but by the end of the book I hope to have a truly solid basis. The trick is to play out everything on a chessboard, at least in my case. That is the only way I can remember things.
Of course I will keep watching chess videos, for learning and motivation.
I hope this is a good decision!
I want to learn chess just for fun. I am 47 years old and I have no ambition to become a chessmaster or anything like that. I have always been fascinated by chess, and I decided to give it a go.
Fun doesn't mean of course that I will not study seriously. For that I am considering the Yusupov series, which seems to take you from zero to somewhere better than zero.
Any ideas or advice?
Thanks!
